Bill Blackmon
Bill Blackmon founded Sunland Builders Inc, a grading and utility company, and was president until January 2004 when he sold the business. Mr. Blackmon has lived in Carteret County since 1982. He was an active member of the Swansboro Rotary Club for 17 years, serving one year as president of the club. Mr. Blackmon graduated from Catawba College with a BA degree and is a Sound Bank founding board member. He played professional football with the Saint Louis Cardinals.
 

 
Chris Chadwick

Chris Chadwick is a Carteret County native, born and raised in Gloucester. He is a graduate of East Carteret High School and Pitt Community College. Mr. Chadwick founded Chadwick Tire Co. in 1992 and K.C.’s Mini Storage in 1996. He also operates a 24 hour wrecker and road service. Mr. Chadwick is the son of Jimmy and Ellen Chadwick He is married to the former Kathryn Smith and they have two children William Christopher and Larrington Lorraine.

Mr. Chadwick is a member of Crissie Wright Lodge and is active with the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum. He is a Carteret General Hospital Board of Director and a member of the Carteret County Planning Board. Mr. Chadwick is a founding board member of Sound Bank.

 

 
S. Phillip Collins
S. Phillip Collins has been the President and CEO of Sound Bank since its inception in September 2001. He is also a Sound Bank founding Board Member. Phil  has been active in the banking industry since 1985. He is a graduate of NC State University with a double major in accounting and business management and has a master of business administration from UNC Charlotte. He is also a Certified Public Account.

Mr. Collins is married to Susie Collins and has two daughters, Sarah and Sydni.

 

 
Michael H. Coyle

Michael H. Coyle is President and CEO of Bally Refrigerated Boxes, Inc.  Bally is one of the largest manufacturers of insulated panels in the United States.  He has held this position since 1997.

 In addition to his responsibilities at Bally, Mr. Coyle is heavily involved in the management of other affiliated companies and serves as Executive Vice President of KeepRite Refrigeration and National Coil Company.

 Mr. Coyle has served on the Board of the Carteret County Economic Development Council and has held positions of Vice President and President (1999 – 2001).  Mr. Coyle has also served on the Board of the Carteret County Manufacturer's Association.

 Prior to moving to North Carolina in 1995 to assume management of Bally, Mr. Coyle was the corporate controller of United Refrigeration, Inc. and affiliated companies.  While at United, Mr. Coyle was responsible for all financial reporting for this Philadelphia based conglomerate.

 Prior to joining United, Mr. Coyle was a CPA and a Supervisor with Ernst & Young, LLC (previously Ernst & Whinney).  He is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Coyle is married to Kathy Coyle and has three children.



 
Malcolm C. Garland
Malcolm Garland is Senior Vice President and former founding Chairman of the Board of Sound Bank. He graduated from Harvard University with an AB degree in 1965 and an MBA in 1970. Mr. Garland served in the United States Marine Corps in the Republic of Vietnam as a Captain and received the Bronze Star with Combat “V”.

He was President of The Malcolm Garland Company, President and CEO of O’Neill Developments, Inc., Senior Vice President and COO of First Georgia Bank, and Chairman of the Chattahoochee and Buckhead Banks. Mr. Garland is a registered securities principal (series 24) and is life, health, property, and casualty insurance licensed. He is President-elect of the Beaufort Ole Town Rotary Club, a Director of the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce, and Treasurer of the Down East Business Association. He is a Certified Crown Financial trainer.

A member of Smyrna Pentecostal Holiness Church, Mr. Garland serves as Deacon, Director of Discipleship, and Adult Sunday School teacher. He is married to Mary Randolph Garland. They have two sons, Chandler and Nathanael (deceased).

Mr. Garland is the author of “A Crisis is No Time to Build a Foundation”.

 

 
John Harris
John Harris is the founder of Harris Law Firm, PLLC in Morehead City and is a Board Certified Specialist in Real Property Law. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a B. A. in Political Science and from Campbell University School of Law with a Jurist Doctorate.

Mr. Harris is a member of the NC State Bar; a committee member of the NC State Bar Paralegal Certification Board and a board member and past chairman of the N.C. Bar Association Real Property Section Council. He is a speaker at various CLE seminars for attorneys. Mr. Harris is the past president of both the Carteret County Bar Association and the Morehead City Rotary Club and is a member of First United Methodist Church. He is also a founding Board Member of Sound Bank.

Mr. Harris is married to Evelyn Bruton Harris. They have three children, Jordan, Callie and John Michael.

 

 
Jeffrey K. Moore, M.D., A.A.O.S.
Jeffrey Moore is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery education as Chief Resident at the Geisinger Medical Center. Dr. Moore trained at the Alfred I duPont Institute for Crippled Children and has been Board Certified since 1991 by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, with voluntary Board Recertification in 2001. He is an Active Fellow in the American Society of Orthopedic Surgeons and is a member of several orthopedic and Medical Societies. He is a Sound Bank founding Board Member.

Dr. Moore has practiced in Carteret County since 1988.  He is married to Kyra Moore and they have five children.

 

 
Randy Ramsey
Randy Ramsey is the founder and President of Jarrett Bay Boatworks and Yacht Sales. He is also founder of the Harker's Island Sport Fishing School and is a licensed Coast Guard Captain and helicopter pilot as well as a marine surveyor and yacht broker.

Mr. Ramsey has served on the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament's Board since 1983, serving as president in 2003 and 2004. He also serves on the board as Chairman of the North Carolina Manufacturer's Association and is treasurer for the North Carolina State University Student Aid Association. He is a Sound Bank founding Board Member.

Mr. Ramsey lives in Carteret County and has one son, Alan.

 

 
K. Dean Wagaman
K. Dean Wagaman, owner and President of Kurtis Chevrolet in Morehead City, has been in the automobile business since 1975. Kurtis Chevrolet celebrated its 25th anniversary in October of 2006.

Mr. Wagaman is a founding Board Member of Sound Bank. He has served on various local and regional boards including the Carteret County Economic Development Council, the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce, the Morehead City Noon Rotary, the Chevrolet Regional Dealer Council and the North Carolina Auto Dealers Association. He is a recipient of the General Motors Mark of Excellence Award.

Mr. Wagaman resides in Morehead City and in married to Allison Wagaman. He has two sons, Matthew and Jack, and three daughters, Amy, Katherine and Lauren.

 

 
Danny Varner
Danny Varner is the owner and president of Varner Brothers Construction Inc. He is a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology and a concentration in Construction Management.

A founding Sound Bank Board Member, Mr. Varner is also a member of the North Carolina Home Builders Association and the Soundview Rotary. He is a member of First United Methodist Church, where he has served on several boards. Mr. Varner has served on the advisory board for Morehead Middle School and has been an active member of the Athletic Boosters Clubs for Havelock High School, West Carteret High School and Morehead City Middle School. He has also served as a volunteer coach for baseball, basketball, softball and soccer teams from elementary to high school levels.

Mr. Varner is married to Angela Carawan Varner. They have three children, James, Mary Ann and Ruth.
